Faculty Will Identify Successful Strategic Communications and Public Affairs Strategies

ARLINGTON, VA – Faculty at the National Summit on Strategic Communications June 6-7 in Arlington, VA will include 14 respected national leaders and influential industry experts who will identify successful communications and public affairs strategies that have broad application across sectors, including corporations, the military and government, Summit organizers announced.

A distinctive characteristic of the annual Strategic Summit is the one-on-one interaction it provides between speakers and participants, according to participant evaluations.

  • Letitia A. Long, Director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. NGA Director since August 2010 and formerly Deputy Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, Ms. Long is the first woman to lead a major US intelligence agency. She will address the topic “Communicating in an Era of Radical Transparency.”
  • Admiral Gary Roughead, Chief of Naval Operations. The CNO will discuss how and why communications is a strategic imperative in today’s United States Navy. Q&A undoubtedly will touch on the success of the operation to locate Osama bin Laden.
  • Bob Pearson, Chief Technology Officer, WCG, and former VP of Communities and Conversations at DELL Inc. Author of a new book, Pre-Commerce: How Companies and Customers Are Transforming Business Together, Pearson will speak and then lead a panel to include: H. Wes Metheny, Senior Vice President at PhRMA; Christophe Ginisty, Deputy Managing Director and Digital Evangelist for Edelman EMEA; and Raymond F. Kerins Jr., Vice President of External Affairs and Communications at Pfizer Inc.

  • Tracy Faulkner, Vice President, External Affairs, at Shell Oil Company. She will share strategies being used to engage Shell’s diverse stakeholders a year after the BP spill in the Gulf of Mexico rocked the oil exploration industry.
  • Mike Fernandez, Corporate Vice President, Corporate Affairs, Cargill.  He will describe the strategies and techniques being used to direct global public relations for this privately held company employing 131,000 people in 66 countries.
  • Gordon Lambourne, Senior Vice President, Global Public Relations, Marriott International, Inc. He will present Marriott’s global communications strategy — full integration with marketing, brand alignment, e-commerce, development, corporate communications, CSR, internal communications and cross-cultural communications involving 3,600 properties in 71 countries.
