Jack Felton Golden Ruler Award Open for Entry

The 2008 Jack Felton Golden Ruler Award, created by the Commission on Public Relations Measurement & Evaluation, is open for entry. Entry deadline is July 31, 2008. The award recognizes superb examples of research used to support public relations practice.

In addition to the Golden Ruler, the judges may also make silver and merit level awards. The Institute for Public Relations publishes the winners as case studies on its website. Winners will receive their awards at the Summit on Measurement held in October in Portsmouth, New Hampshire (USA).

PR News is the award program's media partner. The award is named for Jack Felton, who served as President and CEO of the Institute and was instrumental in founding the Commission.

"We encourage any PR practitioner, research provider or academic who has conducted meaningful research that meets the award criteria to consider entering," said Toni L. Griffin, Director of Public Relations for MetLife, who chairs the judging team. "The criteria fall into three broad categories: research methods, contributions to the practice of public relations, and quality and substance of findings."

In addition to Griffin, the judges include: John Gilfeather, EVP-Stakeholder Management, North America, TNS; David Kistle, Senior Vice President, Padilla Speer Beardsley; David Michaelson, President, Echo Research; James Scofield O'Rourke IV, Professor & Director, Eugene D. Fanning Center, University of Notre Dame; Don W. Stacks, Professor, School of Communication, University of Miami; Louis C. Williams, Chairman, L.C. Williams & Associates.

The Commission on Public Relations Measurement & Evaluation exists to establish standards and methods for public relations research and measurement, and to issue authoritative best-practices white papers. The Institute for Public Relations is an independent nonprofit dedicated to the science beneath the art of public relations™, bridging the academy and the profession, supporting PR research and mainstreaming this knowledge into practice through PR education.
