Gainesville, Fla., April 26, 2016 – Sylvia Jiankun Guo, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Maryland, has been named the 2016 Grunig PRIME Research Fellowship. The Fellowship, now in its seventh year, promotes applied communications research as a career choice.

Sponsored by PRIME Research to honor the work of renowned public relations scholars James Grunig, Ph.D. and Larissa Grunig, Ph.D., the Grunig PRIME Research Fellowship awards graduate students in the communications field with a work experience in public relations research where the winner collects, analyzes, and interprets data. The Institute for Public Relations manages the Fellowship.

This fellowship offers a great opportunity to connect research and practice.”

In addition to the $5,000 work stipend, Ms. Guo will complete a research paper on her chosen topic of workplace emotions, emotional communication, and public relations. Once the paper is completed, it will be available to download on the IPR website and Ms. Guo will receive an additional $2,500. She will be recognized at IPR’s Annual Distinguished Lecture & Awards Dinner in New York on November 30.
