Kathy Collins has worked in the field of communications since the mid-eighties in activities spanning community relations, internal communications, strategic planning, reputation management, and research. Her current focus is to simplify use of both qualitative and quantitative research to help PR professionals and senior business leaders make better, faster decisions.

Kathy joined GM in 1976 as a technical writer and gained broad-based experience in the auto business through positions in advertising research, engineering, finance and as a first-line supervisor in manufacturing. Her responsibilities to develop and maintain research capabilities for GM have become global and now include directing GM's global corporate and brand reputation survey processes, global monitoring of the media's satisfaction with General Motors, coordinating GM's global employee research processes, and managing the company's global message effectiveness tracking processes. In this capacity, she works extensively with multinational research suppliers and senior leaders throughout GM to discuss research and driving organizational change based on data.

Kathy is a graduate of Grand Valley State University with a B.S. in both English and Anthropology; she has completed M.A. coursework in English Language and Literature from the University of Michigan, and M.S. and Ph.D. coursework in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Wayne State University. She is a member of the Institute for Public Relations' Commission on PR Measurement and Evaluation and serves as GM's representative to The Mayflower Group. She is also a member of PRSA, IABC, and the American Psychological Association.
